First up: The Day
There are some who would tell you that when planning a larger wedding, it is the smartest move to find your budget first; then pick your venue from there and let the venue help you pick an available date somewhere in your time frame. Well, this is one area that we going to be straying from tradition, and it definitely won’t be the last.
Keeping our anniversary we celebrate is actually quite important to me for several reasons; mainly the ease of remembering the day (January 1st…) but also because it is an important start of our story. That first New Year’s kiss changed our lives forever and I want to keep that day of commemoration. Every year brings back the butterflies in my stomach and memories of holding my breathe, hoping I didn’t lose my nerve to take a chance, and kiss the cute guy I had been eyeballing for a few weeks. It’s also a freaking fantastic anniversary day. Everything is open because it’s not a huge holiday to close everything down for (as long as you aren’t living in a global closure….) but everyone is so tired from waiting up til midnight that they are still at home! Restaurant service is great, we’ve had several movie theaters to ourselves, and it’s a tradition I want to keep alive!
Now, sure – we could have two dates as most people do. Which is not a bad option, as I continue reminding myself to keep the concept in the back of my mind because I know how sometimes all my planning and hoping can still take an unfortunate turn. However for now, the way the timeline has worked out – the years we have spent working on building a strong foundation and enjoying a healthy engagement have brought up close enough in the planning window that January 1st in 2022 happens to fall on Saturday; and also happens to be our 10 year anniversary. What a special day to celebrate, surrounded by all our loved ones; friends and family alike who have help guide, rejoice, and support every step of our journey. We have a dual reason for the “investment” into our big day and make it an affair to remember for a lifetime.
The butterflies start all over again when I think about kissing the love of my life at midnight and waking up the next morning to start our next chapter of forever. ❤
