Mad Hatter: Homes

My Outside Space

Most of my favorite memories at home and as a child are outside. The fresh air, the feeling of freedom and family; it’s all so intoxicating.

I remember in the last couple years we got with our Mom, we recognized as adults how much time easily passes without seeing each other. We can live 5 minutes down the road from someone and not see them for months – simply because the opportunity is so available that is almost never happens. Seems so backwards, but it can be so easy to fall into those patterns. “Oh, I can just see her tomorrow.” “We can just swing by on our next trip out.” These became almost an every day narrative and the seeing each other just never happened.

I don’t remember the day or the conversation, but the few of us in the immediate family that still lived in the area decided to take it own our hands to change that narrative, and do a regular Sunday Family Dinner. Some nights we were exhausted and made it simple, some days were beautiful and called for a brunch feast. Nevertheless, the Sundays were spent together. Laughing, happy, and protected.

When I think about what a deck space should be, I think about those days. The giggles, the card games. The yelling, the passion. The together.

I am so thankful for the opportunity to create this kind of space for ourselves and our next chapter of life. Just thinking about days and the adventures spent out here together truly bring tears of joy to my eyes.

This is just the beginning – but here is quick into the latest update of our outdoor space!
